Kick off/Intro
When Camilla Heinze starts the dental training, it is with the bound task of upgrading your qualifications as a veterinarian for dental treatments, training you in flow and efficiency and equipping you to be able to convince animal owners and your colleagues of the importance of dental work. The goal is also to inspire you to set new standards for your own and the clinic’s development in the area. After Camilla’s introduction, you will be introduced to Jannie Nielsen and Christian Kolthoff, who will guide you through the entire course of the programme, after which the course participants will introduce themselves to each other.
Christian and Jannie will review the entire course of the education incl. lectures, assignment writing and exams, after which we finish with a course where we will ask the participants to set concrete goals for their own learning. Finally, Christian will review the business behind the dental work as well as various flow diagrams that can be used to develop the flow in your own practice.
We’re off to a good start
In order to be able to ask and help each other afterwards, it is important that we get to know each other well. That’s why we spend a lot of time on introduction before we start with the more teaching-oriented topics. We set 3 hours of it the first time, but you must have an extra hour in reserve so that we do not have to stop if we are doing something exciting. The teachers the first time are Camilla and Christian. After an introduction to the training, we will start with the following themes (all sessions are live and interactive).
Introduction of students and lecturers
The participants and teachers give a short introduction of themselves, their place of work and their approach to – and interest in – dental work. Christian then presents the results of the questionnaire sent to the participants before the start of the training.
Dental work in veterinary practice – what and why?
We give the floor to Camilla, who introduces us to the topic. The aim is both to introduce the participants to the topic, but also to equip the participants to be able to convince business partners and animal owners of the importance of dental health and dental work.
Goals and measurement
Experience shows that we get what we measure. That is why we create joint objectives for the entire course and enable the individual participant to set goals for themselves. We will then agree on how we will continuously follow up.
The business perspective
It must primarily benefit the animals that we become better at dental work. But we must not forget that dental work is also a business. Christian will review the economics behind the dental work and start a reflection process that should run throughout the course – and ensure that the investment in the course comes back several times over.
Flow and process review
There is a big difference in how you set up your processes. Some do everything in one go and others divide the process into an oral cavity examination/teeth cleaning/diagnosis followed by a later course of treatment. Some have one dental table and others have several. There is rarely right and wrong, but sometimes there are smarter ways to do things. In interaction with Camilla, Christian will review the pros and cons of the different approaches.
Reflection questions for next time
Together we review the upcoming theory module and agree on what would be smart to prepare for before then.
